See A Show! Each year Johnson Marionettes stages one or two of the shows in our repertoire. All shows are our original creations with original scripts. Each show lasts about 45 minutes and includes a full cast of characters (about 11 puppets), scenery changes and music.
Greg Johnson performs the entire show by himself including the set up and tear down. The portable stage is 10' high, 14' wide and requires a minimum of 10' deep. The stage includes lighting and a sound system. All shows are appropriate for all audiences, large or small. While the majority of performances are for elementary school children, senior citizen groups enjoy them just as much. In fact, if they watched Milky's Movie Party on television in the Detroit area during the 1950's, they often enjoy it more than first timers. It brings back fond memories of the early television era. If you would like to learn more about the rest of our shows and see pictures of each show's marionettes, visit our repertoire page. A school visit by Johnson Marionettes often sparks related classroom activities. One of the current season's shows, "The Secret," was set in ancient Egypt so many teachers have planned activities in art, math, science, dance, social studies and other curriculum areas to bring this period of history to life for their students.Greg Johnson follows each performance with a talk about puppetry with his audience. Applesauce, Johnson Marionettes' most beloved star, joins him in front of the stage. Please visit the Repertoire Page to learn more about the shows and their puppets. ![]() Children and parents enjoy "The Secret" performed here at a Community Center in southeastern Michigan |
If the audience is small and there is adequate space and time, everyone is invited to an informal backstage tour following the performance. They see how the stage is rigged and have an opportunity to see the puppets up close. Greg answers questions about the marionettes, the play and the stage. |
