The Human Planet The Human Planet" is a science-fiction story exploring the relative sizes of things from the planets to the atom. A teenager, Joe Dokes, asks the local eccentric inventor, Professor Curmudgeon, for a job helping him in his workshop. Since the boy offers to work for nothing, the Professor leaves to go into town on an errand and leaves Joe in charge of the shop. Soon Mary, Joe's friend, stops by the shop to see how he is doing. Wishing to impress Mary, Joe steps into a large cabinet that appears to be a part of some sort of machine the Professor is working on. He then tells Mary to turn on the switch. There is a loud humming noise, then suddenly, Joe bursts out of the cabinet. He is now as large as the whole building. He screams for Mary to turn the machine off but somehow the switch has become stuck and she cannot move it. Joe quickly continues to grow until he is as large as the Earth itself. He falls off of the Earth and floats around in space as a planet himself. He continues to grow until he is as large as the whole solar system! Suddenly, Joe begins to shrink. Aha! Mary must have finally moved the switch! He becomes smaller, smaller, smaller and then, alas, keeps getting smaller until he is as small as a germ. He meets and talks to a number of other germs. There is Cold, Measles and Strep-Toe-Cockeye. Aunty Body flies in riding on her broom and chases Strep-Toe-Cockeye away. Joe is still getting smaller and soon he is as small as an atom. In the end, does Joe return to his normal size? You will find out, if you see a performance of The Human Planet. Is Applesauce in the story? YUP, YUP, YUP! The show lasts approximately 45 minutes. |
